Dear *|FNAME|*,
We’re excited to reveal our jam-packed tasting line-up for the third quarter of the year. We kick off with an extraordinary three-course Bordeaux dinner with the eminent wine critic, Neal Martin. Vermouth, Sherry and Port have recaptured the hearts and palates of the world, and if you have yet to explore Spain’s wine capital, Rioja is producing ‘some of their best red (and white) wines in its history’, notes Tim Atkin. Don’t miss the launch of MR de Compostella 2021 with Bruwer Raats and Mzokhona Mvemve, and we end the series with an exploration of Loire Chenin Blanc, led by Ina Smith of the Chenin Blanc Association.
Exclusive Bordeaux Dinner with Neal Martin – R3,950
Cape Town: Thursday, 17 August, The Vine Bistro at Glenelly
Time: 17h30 for 18h15
Join us for an extraordinary three-course dinner with arguably the most revered critic in the fine wine world, Neal Martin. Neal will take us on a journey through his latest book, which reviews 150 Bordeaux vintages, and will share his thoughts on current developments in the region. Wines for the dinner include back vintages of Haut-Brion, d’Yquem, Léoville Las Cases, Kanonkop Paul Sauer, and MR de Compostella, among others.
Fortifieds: The Comeback of Vermouth, Sherry & Port – R650
Cape Town: Wednesday, 23 August, Wine Cellar Observatory
Johannesburg: Thursday, 24 August, Dunkeld West Centre
Time: 18h00 - 19h30
Vermouth, Sherry and Port are the new comeback kids. For the past few years, the world has seen a growing appreciation for small-batch, hand-crafted spirits. They’ve regained popularity as mixers in cocktails, but the best ones are extremely expressive, aromatic and textural and should be enjoyed on their own. Expect old family recipes of Vermouth from Pio Cesare, long-aged Sherries from Spain’s Emilo Lustau, and masterful Ports from Dirk Niepoort – all tasted neat and paired with the best bites.
Rioja: Reds from Revolutionaries and Royals – R700
Cape Town: Wednesday, 30 August, Wine Cellar Observatory
Johannesburg: Thursday, 7 September, Dunkeld West Centre
Time: 18h00 - 19h30
Spain’s wine capital, Rioja, ‘isn’t a type of wine, it is a whole wine country’, asserts Decanter. According to Tim Atkin, the region is producing ‘some of their best red (and white) wines in its history’. Riojan reds offer world-class quality, phenomenal ageability and value compared to other celebrated regions. Experience Tempranillo-dominated reds – young to Gran Reserva level – from traditionalists like López de Heredia and Rioja Alta, and from new wavers such as MacRobert & Canals, Alonso & Pedrajo, and Artuke.
Steak Out – In Search of the Ultimate Steak Wine – R855
Cape Town: Wednesday, 20 September, Carne on Keerom Street
Time: 18h00 - 21h00
Gather your friends, family and colleagues – Steak Out is back! We’ve joined forces with Carne on Keerom in search of the ultimate steak and wine pairing. Meat lovers can spoil themselves to a three-course meal paired with four newly landed imports from four countries. Our selection will showcase elegant to bold and powerful styles, ideally suited to the succulent steaks prepared by Head Chef Giorgio Nava. We’ll taste wines from Porto master Dirk Niepoort, modern and traditional styles from Ribera del Duero’s Torre de Oña and Rioja’s López de Heredia, as well as classic Bordeaux from Château Puygueraud.
