Pesquié Terrasses Ventoux Rouge 2020: ‘It’s another winner for this domaine’ – Jeb Dunnuck

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Pesquié is their name and old-vine Grenache is their game! Chateâu Pesquié in the Southern Rhône is among the Ventoux appellation’s brightest stars, and their 2020 Terrasses Ventoux Rouge is ‘one of the great-value buys out there’, writes Jeb Dunnuck. At only R215 per bottle, this classy cuvée is a Wine Cellar best-seller and should be on every dinner table this winter.

Produced from the estate’s old, terraced vines at 300m altitude just below Mont Ventoux, this 60/40 blend of Grenache and Syrah is raised entirely in concrete and stainless steel, allowing the chalky minerality of the vineyards’ limestone soils to shine through. The 2020 is elegant and intense with dark-fruited depth. A ‘phenomenal bargain’, it’s no wonder Pesquié is one of Robert Parker's 'all-time favorite producers in France'.

The Chaudière family have been pioneers of the Ventoux AOC since the 19th century. Brothers Frédéric and Alexandre continue the visionary work of their parents, focusing on high-altitude Grenache and Syrah from unique limestone and clay-rich soils. Don’t pass up on their Le Paradou Grenache 2021 – another knock-out value wine for only R170. Delicious and unpretentious, Le Paradou is a ‘Vin de France’ produced from vines that are up to 60 years old, while their single-vineyard cuvées also offer exceptional value. Tasting notes

Pesquié Terrasses Ventoux Rouge 2020

‘Longtime readers will know that I love this cuvée, which is year in, year out, one of the great value buys out there. The Ventoux Terrasses is a normal blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah that was mostly destemmed and brought up in a mix of concrete and stainless steel. It offers a rocking bouquet of black cherries, ground pepper, flowers, and violets, with almost marine- like hints in its minerality. Medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused, pure, and with fine tannins, it’s another winner from this domaine.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Jebdunnuck.com, 91/100

Pesquié Le Paradou Grenache 2021

‘A great little value, the 2021 Vin De France Grenache is a juicy, pure Grenache offering wonderful raspberry and strawberry fruits as well as some peppery garrigue notes. Medium-bodied, balanced, charming, and just undeniably delicious, it’s about as good a bistro wine as there is. Drink it over the coming couple of years.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Jebdunnuck.com, 90/100
