Tasting notes
López de Heredia Viña Cubillo Crianza 2015
‘The 2015 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza reflects the warmer conditions of the year, and with the riper fruit they picked to produce this wine, they still managed to keep around 13.5% alcohol. The Cubillo vineyard has more clay, and sometimes clay soils take heat better and make the wines fresher than those from poorer soils.’ – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 93/100
‘"2015 had good acidity for a hot year," says Mercedes López de Heredia of this assemblage of Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuelo. It's still on the young side for me, with the freshness of its slightly higher site, firmish tannins and a savoury, spicy finish. A little angular?’ – Tim Atkin MW, Rioja Special Report 2023, 91/100
‘I have adored, indeed occasionally worshipped, the wines of Lopez de Heredia for many years.’ – Neal Martin
