Strauss & Co is proud to offer fine wines from the Tabernacle – the famous underground cellar in Stellenbosch that houses some of South Africa's most spectacular vinous treasures. The collection features legendary sweet and fortified wines, spirits and vintage bottlings from the Cape and beyond. Among the highlights are two hand-blown bottles of 18th and 19th Century Constantia Sweet White and Port, both re-corked. These were enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte, a great lover of Constantia’s wines.

Wines from the Tabernacle span almost the entire 20th century, with selected vintages from Chateau Libertas, Oude Libertas, Zonnebloem and Nederburg, including the maiden 1973 Baronne. There are delicious and fresh 1973s from Oude Libertas, bottles of the iconic GS 1966, and Chateau Libertas 1937! These gems are sought out for their lasting purity and life, and remain a source of inspiration to winemakers.

Bidders can look forward to a deep selection of Vin de Constance – many of which have been recorked, very early vintages of Monis, and KWV limited-edition Ports.

A bottle of 1892 Château d'Yquem spearheads the sweet wine offering, joined by mature Sauternes from Rieussec, Château de Fargues and Climens. Collectible spirits include a historic bottle of Napoleon Grande Fine Champagne Imperiale Cognac, dating from 1811, and a range of fine and rare Scottish Whiskies.
