2019 Pesquié Terrasses Ventoux Rouge: One 'hell of a house red' – Jeb Dunnuck

Dear *|FNAME|*,

'Château Pesquié is one of the great estates of the Ventoux,' writes Joe Czerwinski for Wine Advocate. It is one of Robert Parker's 'all-time favorite producers in France' and 'a phenomenal bargain'. Pesquié's Terrases Ventoux Rouge – a blend of Grenache and Syrah – also consistently ranks highly on Jeb Dunnuck's annual Top 100 value list.

Produced from the estate's old, terraced vines at 300m altitude, just below Mont Ventoux, the 2019 boasts depth, fruit concentration and mineral intensity without being sweet. It is a classy cuvée for only R 210 and, as Jeb Dunnuck says, a 'no brainer that would be a hell of a house red'.

With their history dating back to the 19th century, Alexandre and Frédéric Chaudière's family were pioneers of the Ventoux region. They showcase the cooler conditions in Ventoux's appellations by producing wines of purity, freshness and elegance. 'With Frédéric recently being elected head of the appellation, expect more visibility for this underrated region,' writes Wine Advocate.

Don't miss their 2018 old-vine Grenache cuvées – Artemia (96 DEC) and Ascensio (93+ WA), or the perennial Wine Cellar favourite, offering the ultimate value – Le Paradou Grenache 2019. Browse our full list of Château Pesquié wines online.

Tasting notes

Pesquié, Terrasses Ventoux Rouge 2019

'A wine that has almost always been at the top of my good value list for the last decade or more, Les Terrasses offers a deep and rich style, with lots of black cherry and gooseberry fruit mixed with more peppery garrigue. earth, and a touch of meat. Medium-bodied, crisp, and beautifully textured, with silky tannins. You can enjoy the bottles today or store them safely for over a decade. I recently finished a case of the 2005 which was still going strong, so this wine has a lot of longevity.'Jeb Dunnuck, 91/100

'Notes of smoked tea, lilac and black cherry perfume this blend of Grenache and Syrah sourced from gravelly limestone soils. Unoaked in style, it highlights ripe but pristine black-cherry and plum flavors accented by a firm, stony minerality. Enjoy this exceptionally well-priced yet luminously fruity, elegant wine through 2029.'Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100

'The 2019 Ventoux Terrasses remains one of the top values in the Southern Rhône. A 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah aged exclusively in tank, it offers aromas of black cherries and raspberries, underscored by hints of black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it's round and silky-firm in feel, with a long, salty, mouth-watering finish. Drink 2020-2027.'Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 90/100
