Tasting notes
Jamet Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2020
‘The 2020 Cotes du Rhone Blanc, grown near the winery, is a blend of 40% Marsanne, 30% Viognier, 25% Grenache Blanc and 5% Roussanne. Boasting lovely florals and lively notes of pear and tangerine, it's a medium-bodied white Rhône with unusually vibrant acidity and a long, zesty finish. Drink it over the next few years.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 91/100
Jamet Condrieu Vernillon 2020
‘I loved the 2020 Condrieu. It’s made in a more vibrant, reductive, racy style that carries classic white peach, tangerine, and apricot aromas and flavors. Brought up all in amphora, this pretty, bright, elegant Condrieu is ideal for drinking over the coming 3-5 years.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 94/100
‘A blend of fruit from Cote Chatillon and Vernon, the Jamets' 2020 Condrieu Vernillon is fermented and aged in 500-liter oak. Featuring pronounced floral notes, melon and pear fruit and a hint of white gumdrop, it's medium to full-bodied but more about freshness than fat, with a crisp, vibrant finish. It should drink well for several years.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 93/100
Jamet Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2020
‘Very fine, silky tannins - not too much - and expressive fruit. Good acidity, it is all well-balanced, juicy, expressive and supremely drinkable but nonetheless structured.’ – Decanter, 93/100
‘The 2020 Cotes du Rhone—100% Syrah from parts of Ampuis not included in Côte Rôtie—was tasted from tank prior to bottling. All destemmed, it's less floral than the IGP Syrah but boasts slightly dark-toned fruit, with notes of black raspberries and hints of asphalt. Medium to full-bodied, it's ripe, silky and long on the finish.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 90-92/100
Jamet Côte-Rotie 2019
‘Jean-Paul Jamet said '2019 gave wines in the style that I like to make'. A step up from the 2018 vintage, the 2019 is more vibrant and intense. A blend of 25 parcels, amounting to 17ha, almost exclusively on schist soils. No destemming. A tasting of nine different barrels across a variety of lieux-dits suggest that the 2019 Côte-Rôtie is very special indeed. This is vibrant and intense, but not as sunny as the 2018 in style - sugars and phenolics progressed at the same gradual rate in 2019, making for a more harmonious and balanced wine. You feel the hot vintage in the wine, but it's represented more as power and intensity than hot alcohol. Vivid and highly impressive.’ – Decanter, 98/100
‘Scheduled to be bottled shortly after my visit, the 2019 Côte Rôtie has gorgeous, floral nuances that give way to more peppery, meaty, gamey notes that are the hallmark of this wonderful estate. Medium to full-bodied, it has considerable elegance and finesse on the palate (Jean-Paul compares this to his 2001 and 2007), silky tannins, and a beautiful finish. It’s going to have some up-front appeal as well as a broad drink window.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 95-98/100
Clape Cornas Renaissance 2019
‘Intensely perfumed, mineral-driven dark fruit and violet scents, along with a smoky element and a hint of cured tobacco. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering lively cassis, cherry preserve and floral pastille flavors and a hint of dark chocolate. Closes very long and spicy, with a repeating cherry note and steadily building tannins.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92-94/100
‘Even the "early-drinking" 2019 Cornas Renaissance needs some time in the cellar. It's full-bodied, dense and tannic, with notes of cassis, plus savory undertones of black olive. Rich, velvety textured and long on the finish, it looks to be a solid effort.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 92-94+/100
Clape Vin des Amis 2020
‘Fragrant style of Syrah, with violets and liquorice, a touch of acetone and blueberry. Thirst-quenching, with good acidity, there's plenty of space in the wine, while the finish is dry and refreshing.’ – Decanter, 91/100
‘The 2020 Vin De Pays Le Vin Des Amis, which has just been bottled, offers some classic Clape character in a more up-front, mouth-filling, charming style. Blueberries, blackberries, peppered meat, and violets all define this utterly delicious Syrah geared for drinking over the coming 4-5 years.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 91/100
Clape Saint-Péray 2020
‘Starts soft and gentle, then the sparkling, bright acidity spreads over the palate. Great purity, balance and roundness; very satisfying. A mix of 60-year-old and seven-year-old vines vinified in oak. 2022 - 2030.’ – Decanter, 94/100
Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage 2020
The 2020 vintage has not yet been rated. See the 2019 tasting note below.
‘Spice-driven dark berry, cherry, peony and licorice aromas are sharpened by a zesty mineral flourish. Fleshy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors turn sweeter with air and pick up a smoky nuance on the back half. Shows fine definition and energy and finishes spicy and quite long, displaying gently chewy tannins and a resonating floral quality.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 91-93/100 |
