Henri Giraud: One of the most impressive ranges Champagne readers will come across
Henri Giraud
‘One of the most impressive ranges Champagne readers will come across' – Vinous
Brand new to Wine Cellar and just landed in South Africa, Champagne Henri Giraud is one of the oldest Champagne families and 'a modern legend in the making', says Decanter. Almost two decades ago, Robert Parker wrote that 'this may be the finest Champagne house virtually no one has ever heard of'. Today Henri Giraud is the darling of collectors, producing some of the most allocated Champagnes on the planet.
Their newly released MV17 is a multi-vintage blend of Pinot Noir (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) based on 2017, but with incredible depth from their reserve wines, dating back to 1990! Their Dame-Jane Rosé NV is elegant, vinous and almost weightless, aged in sandstone terracotta – 'an approach that works beautifully', writes Antonio Galloni. Giraud's Esprit Nature NV, from organic grapes, is inviting, creamy and textured – 'a fabulous introduction to their range', per Vinous. This is your chance to become one of the first collectors of these incredible Champagnes in South Africa.
'If you love the wines of Salon, Selosse, Krug, Egly and other mighty Houses, then you will adore the intense fanfare of flavours that accompanies a bottle of Henri Giraud Champagne.' – Matthew Jukes
Henri Giraud is known for their barrel fermented, muscular Champagnes thanks to their Grand Cru Pinot Noir plantings in the village of Aÿ. With the 12th generation at the helm, they remain a family-run, independent house, which is rare for Champagne.
