‘As the name suggests, a solera/reserve pérpetulle wine, with no fewer than 14 vintages included, the youngest from 2019 and the most senior from 2002, kept together in five 5,000 litre foudres. Just 970 bottles were drawn in November 2020. Pale gold, the faintest of blushes, and an attractive nose which marries buttered toast, crème brûlée, spice and orchard fruit. There is something Burgundian here, albeit in the guise of a blanc de noirs (sans bulles!), a depth born of complexity and a wonderful ‘otherness’ which, to me, makes this category so exciting. 2021-2025’ – Simon Field MW, Decanter, 91/100

| Producer information | The house of Drappier was established during Napoleonic times, though its Urville cellars date back to the 12th century. Considered to be one of Champagne's greatest boutique producers, Drappier's vintage and prestige cuvées were famously collected by Charles de Gaulle - the French general and statesman who led the Free French Forces during the Second World War. Drappier's winemaking philosophy is one of minimum intervention and, since 2008, the house has been producing Champagne with very little addition of sugar and sulphur dioxide. The wines are typically fruity, lively and exuberant with a strong Pinot Noir influence. |
