Drappier, Brut Nature Rosé 750ml NVFrance, Champagne
The House of Drappier was established during Napoleonic times, though its Urville cellars date back to the 12th century. Considered to be one of Champagne's greatest boutique producers, Drappier's vintage and prestige cuvées were famously collected by Charles de Gaulle - the French general and statesman who led the Free French Forces during the Second World War.
Drappier's winemaking philosophy is one of minimum intervention and, since 2008, the house has been producing Champagne with very little addition of sugar and sulphur dioxide. The wines are typically fruity, lively and exuberant with a strong Pinot Noir influence.
'This bone-dry wine is made using Pinot Noir skins to give its salmon-pink color. It is dry and tightly crisp, compared with the brut nature cuvée also made from Pinot Noir. The ripe red fruits give a fruity character that balances the dryness. Like many really dry Champagnes, it needs to age soften the intensity of the acidity, so drink this bottling from 2017.' – Wine Enthuisast, 90/100
'100% Pinot Noir, a rosé produced using the saignée method, no dosage, no filtering, the Brut Nature Rosé is a cuvée which will delight lovers of freshness, minerality and purity. With hints of rose petals, red fruits, citrus fruits, mandarin orange and also white pepper, the Brut Nature Rosé unveils another facet of rosé Champagne. Firm and focused, with a lively bead and flavors of white cherry, raspberry, ground ginger and smoke, underscored by a hint of almond skin that lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2016.' – Wine Spectator, 90/100
