Rich yet light on its feet, the Oeil de Perdrix is spellbinding in its beauty. Kirsch, rose petals, white flowers, mint, white pepper and crushed rocks are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite, ethereal Champagne. What an absolute joy it is. No dosage. 'The NV Extra Brut Oeil de Perdrix is a Meunier-based Rosé, all from the 2017 harvest. Translucent and yet deceptive in its richness, the Oeil de Perdrix has a lot going on. Orange peel, spice, rose petal and sweet red cherry fruit are all nicely lifted. Oeil de Perdrix is a beautiful, expressive Champagne, but it only truly blossoms with a few hours of air. 'Disgorged in July 2019 without dosage, Dehours's NV Extra-Brut Oeil de Perdrix is showing nicely, unwinding in the glass with scents of raspberries, fresh peach and mandarin oil. Medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, it's tightly wound, with racy acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse. | Producer information | Founded in the 1930s, Dehours & Fils is run by the third generation vigneron, Jérôme Dehours. They farm 42 parcels over 14.5 ha split between the villages of Mareuil-la-Port (Montagne de Reims); and Oeuilly, Cerseuil and Troissy (Vallée de la Marne). This area, Vallée de Flagot, named for the small river flowing through the valley to meet the Marne River, has a cool climate. It is perfect for growing Pinot Meunier, the corner stone of Dehours Champagne. As for the style at Dehours, the wines are respectful of the rich and bold flavours of the Pinot Meunier with a vibrant energy the result of a low dosage from brut to extra brut cuvées. |
