Disgorgement date: September 2022

‘Based on the 2020 vintage, complemented by 39% reserve wines, and disgorged in September 2022 with five grams per liter dosage, the NV Brut Grande Réserve bursts with aromas of pear, apple, honeycomb, toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's charming and sensual, with a generous core of fruit and an expansive finish. 2023-2031’ – William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 92/100

'The NV Brut Grand Réserve (2020 base) is a pretty, gracious wine. This release is based on 2020, with 39% reserve wines from a perpetual reserve that dates back to 1998. Dried cherry, tobacco, dried leaves, mint and lifted floral notes all grace this classy, wonderfully understated, airy NV offering from Dehours. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October, 2022. 2023-2029' – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 90/100

Please see the tasting notes on the previous disgorgement date:

'Disgorged in July 2019 with 5.5 grams per liter dosage, the NV Brut Grande Réserve is based on the 2016 vintage, complemented by around one-third reserve wines from a solera started in 1998. Much like a somewhat earlier disgorgement of the same tirage that I reviewed last year, it's showing very well, wafting from the glass with notes of pear, mandarin oil, elderflower, smoke and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and precise, with a perfumed core of fruit, lively acids and a pearly mousse, it's beautifully seamless and elegant. 2020 - 2030.' – William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Mar 2021)

'A vinous version, with a lovely skein of spice box and graphite aromatics winding through the finely meshed flavors of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit, with salted almond accents and an underpinning of minerally chalk and smoke notes. Bright and harmonious, with a lasting, mouthwatering finish. Disgorged July 2019. Drink now through 2025.' – Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Nov 2020)

'(roughly 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir; 7 g/l dosage): Light gold. Deeply perfumed aromas of poached pear, vanilla, white flowers and toasted brioche are lifted by citrus zest. Supple and expansive on the palate, offering ripe orchard and pit fruit flavors that gain spiciness and a floral element with air. This seamless Champagne finishes long and supple, with clinging pear and honeysuckle qualities.' – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 91/100

'Pale straw colour. Quite a bit of development on the nose and very, very much more interesting than the average NV. Bravo! This is what grower's champagne is all about.' – Julia Harding MW,, 17/20

'The wines are fully aged on lees, and clarified by natural decanting, without filtration or fining. This Cuvée reveals the Pinot Meunier Character, favorite grapevariety in the Marne Valley area and iconic identity of our vineyard. We use a high proportion of perpetual reserve started in 1998. Malolactic fermentation completed.' – Winemaker

Producer information Founded in the 1930s, Dehours & Fils is run by the third generation vigneron, Jérôme Dehours. They farm 42 parcels over 14.5 ha split between the villages of Mareuil-la-Port (Montagne de Reims); and Oeuilly, Cerseuil and Troissy (Vallée de la Marne). This area, Vallée de Flagot, named for the small river flowing through the valley to meet the Marne River, has a cool climate. It is perfect for growing Pinot Meunier, the corner stone of Dehours Champagne. As for the style at Dehours, the wines are respectful of the rich and bold flavours of Pinot Meunier with a vibrant energy – the result of a low dosage from brut to extra-brut cuvées.
