Light skin contact and vinification in oak work so well here as Meunier on this sandy site seems to be ideally suited to this approach. Hints of spice, ginger and dried flowers lend notable complexity throughout. Time in the glass brings out a range of exotic floral and spice notes that are so alluring. | Producer information | Founded in the 1930s, Dehours & Fils is run by the third generation vigneron, Jérôme Dehours. They farm 42 parcels over 14.5 ha split between the villages of Mareuil-la-Port (Montagne de Reims); and Oeuilly, Cerseuil and Troissy (Vallée de la Marne). This area, Vallée de Flagot, named for the small river flowing through the valley to meet the Marne River, has a cool climate. It is perfect for growing Pinot Meunier, the corner stone of Dehours Champagne. As for the style at Dehours, the wines are respectful of the rich and bold flavours of the Pinot Meunier with a vibrant energy the result of a low dosage from brut to extra brut cuvées. |
