Tim Atkin SA Report
‘The dry conditions in the early part of the harvest meant that the 1932 Lötter vineyard yielded just 1.8 tons per hectare in 2023. Floral, intense and savoury, this is mid-way between a Cinsault and a Nebbiolo in style, with notes of forest floor, truffle and rose petal and layers of plum, bramble and red berries. 2025-30’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 95/100

‘Grapes from a Franschhoek vineyard planted in 1932. 100% destemmed, maturation lasting in 10 months in 500-litre barrels. Enchanting aromatics of violet, fresh herbs, black cherry, orange and earth while the palate is rich and round with tangy acidity and mouth-coating, lightly spicy tannins. Alc: 13.5%.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

‘Pale crimson. Very juicy and appealing. Lots of both chew and fruit here! A Cinsault with much more structure than most. Long. 2024-2034’ – Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20

Producer information Van Loggerenberg Wines was started by Lukas and wife Roxanne with their first vintage in 2016. The 2019 vintage is the fourth release for Lukas – a rising star, Young Gun and 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin. Lukas grew up in Rawsonville in the Breederivier valley, and was always surrounded by vineyards and wine. His wines are produced in the Devon Valley and the grapes are sourced from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Swartland. Each wine and it's name has a specific story behind it and his wines have become extremely sought-after. 'Pretty damn hot,' says Christian Eedes raving about his previous releases.
