‘A wine that flirts with perfection, the 2012 Cumulus Vineyard #6 is an interesting blend of 38% Syrah, 37% Grenache, 17.4% Petite Sirah and the rest Mourvedre that saw 33 months in 54% new French oak. There’s a tiny 191 cases made, and it’s one of the most singular, exotic wines I’ve tasted. Spice, cedar, chocolate, exotic flowers and an assortment of dark fruits all emerge from this full-bodied, layered blend that hits the palate with serious richness and depth. Yet, like all truly great wines, it’s light, ethereal and never, ever heavy. There’s big structure here as well, so forget bottles for 3-4 years and enjoy over the following 15+ years.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 99/100

Producer information Sine Qua Non, commonly referred to as SQN, is a direct translation of the Latin phrase "Absolutely Indispensable". Founded in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, SQN is now one of the most famous wine producers in California. Their focus is on Rhône grape varietals - primarily Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Their two flagship varietals being Syrah and Grenache. With most of their vineyards based in Santa Barbara, SQN's existence is a direct contradiction to the common notion that the best Californian wines are only made in Napa Valley. Known for their low yields, high prices, and high demand; any consumer who manages to get their hands on a bottle should consider themselves incredibly lucky. This cult wine producer has never made a direct sequel to any of their wines - every vintage has a unique label and name. 16 of their released wines have been given a perfect score by The Wine Advocate.
