Sine Qua Non Next of Kyn No.4 2010 Magnum Bottle size: 1500ml
United States, California
R18,000
‘The 2010 Cumulus Vineyard #4 is an off-the-hook effort that showed even better than last year. Made from 44% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah, 8% Mourvedre and 4% Touriga Nacional, it’s mostly destemmed (24% whole cluster) and aged 30 months in 30% new French oak. It boasts incredible aromatics of cassis, blackberry, white chocolate, flowers and spice-box to go with a full-bodied, incredibly pure, seamless and textured feel on the palate. Still a baby, this puppy has a long life ahead of it; give it another year or so and enjoy bottles through 2030.’ – Jeb Dunuck, Wine Advocate, 98/100

Producer information | Sine Qua Non, commonly referred to as SQN, is a direct translation of the Latin phrase "Absolutely Indispensable". Founded in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, SQN is now one of the most famous wine producers in California. Their focus is on Rhône grape varietals - primarily Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Their two flagship varietals being Syrah and Grenache. With most of their vineyards based in Santa Barbara, SQN's existence is a direct contradiction to the common notion that the best Californian wines are only made in Napa Valley. Known for their low yields, high prices, and high demand; any consumer who manages to get their hands on a bottle should consider themselves incredibly lucky. This cult wine producer has never made a direct sequel to any of their wines - every vintage has a unique label and name. 16 of their released wines have been given a perfect score by The Wine Advocate. |
