'The 2013 Next of Kyn - No. 7 Cumulus Vineyard is a real stunner. Rich, explosive and overwhelmingly beautiful, it takes hold of all the senses and never lets go. Even with all of its power and richness, the 2013 retains striking aromatic lift and energy. I would give it another few years to settle down, but it is superb today. This is an extraordinary wine by any measure. Don't miss it. In 2013, the blend is 45% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 15% Petite Sirah, 5% Mourvèdre, 4.5% Touriga Nacional and 1.5% Roussanne, done with 58% whole clusters and aged for 30 months in French oak.' – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 99/100

Producer information Sine Qua Non, commonly referred to as SQN, is a direct translation of the Latin phrase "Absolutely Indispensable". Founded in 1994 by Manfred and Elaine Krankl, SQN is now one of the most famous wine producers in California. Their focus is on Rhône grape varietals - primarily Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier. Their two flagship varietals being Syrah and Grenache. With most of their vineyards based in Santa Barbara, SQN's existence is a direct contradiction to the common notion that the best Californian wines are only made in Napa Valley. Known for their low yields, high prices, and high demand; any consumer who manages to get their hands on a bottle should consider themselves incredibly lucky. This cult wine producer has never made a direct sequel to any of their wines - every vintage has a unique label and name. 16 of their released wines have been given a perfect score by The Wine Advocate.
