Querciabella Chianti Classico 2021 Bottle size: 750ml
Italy, Tuscany
R435
‘Produced since 1974, Querciabella’s annata has surely transformed over the decades but in recent years it has been one of the zone’s most consistent overperformers. In 2021, grapes were picked between 1-21 October, harnessing all the vintage’s concentration with the vivacity of the estate’s high altitude sites. Hints of smoke and terracotta lace through dark raspberry and black currants, as heady rose slowly amplifies. Tight-grained tannins are stitched seamlessly into the supple fruit fabric. There is such a pristine quality to this as it vibrates with scintillating energy. 2025-2033’ – Michaela Morris, Decanter, 93/100
‘The Chianti Classico 2021 is fabulous. Bright and powerful, with great resonance, this wine shows how convincing the vintage is. harvestwill find a Chianti Classico of dynamic energy and volume. Dark red cherries, purple fruit, lavender, rose petals, spice and a gentle kiss of French oak lead into a lush, vibrant finish. Outstanding. 2023-2036’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 93/100
‘This red is precise, offering cherry, raspberry, rose, iron and tobacco flavors fused to a steely, dense and vibrant structure. Balanced and intense, building to a long aftertaste infused with fruit and mineral notes. Best from 2026 through 2045.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100

Producer information | The story of Querciabella began in 1974 when Giuseppe ‘Pepito’ Castiglioni purchased a single hectare of vineyards on a Tuscan hillside. He was an industrial entrepreneur by trade but his dreams and passions were in producing wine. In the mid-1990s Pepito’s son, Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, took over the vineyards and took Querciabella’s reputation to new heights. He saw to it that Querciabella was one of the first wineries in Italy to convert to organic viticulture and was a pioneer in his biodynamic approach. Sebastiano’s passion for animal rights also led to the vegan certification of Querciabella. Today Querciabella’s vineyards span more than 100 hectares, located in Chianti Classico and Maremma and are planted with all the grape varieties that Pepito only dreamed of when purchasing that first hectare of vineyards. |
