Querciabella Chianti Classico Riserva 2019 Bottle size: 750ml
Italy, Tuscany
R660
‘Supple and intense, this red is saturated with black cherry, blackberry, floral, wild herb and mineral aromas and flavors. As this plays out on the long finish, the solid structure is well-covered by flesh. Offers fine harmony and expression. Best from 2024 through 2040.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 94/100
‘The organic Querciabella 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Querciabella shows richly concentrated fruit with blackberry and cherry layered with light spice and mineral. This wine represents a selection of fruit from Greve, Radda and Gaiole in Chianti, and each parcel is vinified separately before the final blend is made. 2023-2030’ – Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 93/100
‘The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva is a terrific wine made from vineyards in Greve, Radda and Gaiole. Dark and powerful in the glass, the 2019 offers up dark-toned fruit, spice, leather, savory herbs, tobacco and earthy notes. I would give it a few years to soften. 2024-2034’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92+/100
‘Deep, lustrous ruby. Captivating, deep sour-cherry and raspberry nose that is still quite youthful. Beautiful intensity of fruit and with a whisper of oak. Suave, tangy, deep raspberry fruit with gorgeous, chewy tannins that stick to the fruit. In for the long haul. Stunning balance between gripping, ripe tannins and deep, tangy fruit. 2024-2034’ – Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, 18/20

Producer information | The story of Querciabella began in 1974 when Giuseppe ‘Pepito’ Castiglioni purchased a single hectare of vineyards on a Tuscan hillside. He was an industrial entrepreneur by trade but his dreams and passions were in producing wine. In the mid-1990s Pepito’s son, Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, took over the vineyards and took Querciabella’s reputation to new heights. He saw to it that Querciabella was one of the first wineries in Italy to convert to organic viticulture and was a pioneer in his biodynamic approach. Sebastiano’s passion for animal rights also led to the vegan certification of Querciabella. Today Querciabella’s vineyards span more than 100 hectares, located in Chianti Classico and Maremma and are planted with all the grape varieties that Pepito only dreamed of when purchasing that first hectare of vineyards. |
