Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2019 Bottle size: 750ml
Italy, Piedmont
R725
‘Camphor, rose, cedar and ripe red berry aromas come to the forefront on this beautiful Barbaresco. Smooth and elegantly structured, the focused palate features ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and white pepper alongside taut, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced.’ – Kerin O’Keefe, kerinokeefe.com, 96/100
‘High expectations for this new release coming from such a highly lauded vintage, the 2019 does not disappoint. Bold and punchy from start to finish, the nose boasts a multi-layered melange of lavender, violets, ripe red and black cherries, botte oak spice, potpourri and perfumed bathroom soaps. Seductive and muscular, the palate is as bold as it gets with a rich vein of textured mineral tannins over dense, sweet pithy berry fruits before the finish is overwhelmed by a chalky, spicy, stony minerality. This is a very serious piece of kit with high aspirations and serious intent that is sure to seduce serious Piedmont Nebbiolo collectors.’ – Greg Sherwood MW, 95/100
‘The 2019 Barbaresco does not disappoint, opening with aromas of fresh cherries, wild thyme and rose petals. Elegant and refined on the palate with notes of crushed raspberries, savory spice and turned earth. The wine finishes with poise and confidence knowing it will most likely outlast all other wines in the cellar.’ – Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast, 95/100
‘There is a more pronounced mineral and delicately spiced character to the 2019 Barbaresco, with notes of wet asphalt and kirsch and vibrant purity. It has elegant concentration, with fine coiled tannins in its hints of tea leaves, bergamot, and ripe wild raspberry, and has a more pronounced structure, This is a fantastic expression. 2024-2040.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 94-95/100
‘This red combines cherry, plum, tar, iron, licorice and eucalyptus aromas and flavors, backed by a firm, refreshing profile. Dense and tight for now; however, the long, resonant finish and lingering fruit and white pepper accents show its potential. 2027-2045.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100
‘This is extremely floral and bright on the nose with lavender, violets and dark berries. Orange peel too. Full-bodied and solid with firm tannins and a tight finish.’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 93/100
‘Produttori’s Barbaresco classico feels lively and light, its tart cherry and red-plum flavors fleshing out over several hours to show impressive depth and complexity. The tannins are firm and ripe, guiding the juicy red-fruit flavors to a long and balanced finish that’s freshened by a note of orange zest.’ – Wine & Spirits, 93/100
‘The 2019 Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 15-20 years, give or take. Sweet, floral and open, the 2019 offers lovely brightness and energy to match its mid-weight, nervy feel. Sweet dried cherry, mint, crushed flowers and savory notes all grace this soft, understated Barbaresco from the Produttori. 2024-2036’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 91/100

Producer information | Dating back to 1894, but officially founded in 1958, Produttori del Barbaresco, along with Gaja and Giacosa, has defined this famous Piedmontese village and its wines. 51 members farm more than 100 hectares of prime Nebbiolo in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of their land and farm with centuries-old skill and dedication. It is often regarded as the greatest co-operative in the world. ‘These fine, traditionally built Barbarescos deserve serious attention,’ writes Antonio Galloni. The Produttori del Barbaresco wines are some of Wine Cellar’s favourites and they produce ridiculously good wines at every level. |
