‘Coteaux du Layon, which generally does not get much botrytis, so that many of its sweeter-styled chenin blancs are a result of the grapes dehydrating on the vine, rather than being concentrated by noble rot. This makes for a rather unique and compelling example of sweet chenin blanc, and such is the case with the new release from Moulin Touchais -- the1975. The nose offers up a beautiful mélange of fresh peach, candle wax, lemon oil , a touch of tea leaves, chalky soil tones and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and really beautifully balanced, with great focus and cut and a chiseled, long and classy finish. Just a superb bottle for drinking over the next few decades. 2010-2030+’. – John Gilman, View From The Cellar, 93/100

‘Dusty, chalky brûléed nose with burnt sugar, piquant spice, reduced root veg notes, cabbage and sweet bruised orchard fruits and grape jelly. Spicy, tart, slightly lean.’ – Greg Sherwood MW, 92+/100

‘Very deep and concentrated appearance. Bronze/copper. Great graduation to the rim. The nose is dense, concentrated and complex. It shows some old Cognac and toffee/caramel notes, with elements of Calvados and apples too. Orange marmalade and a positive hint of struck match. This is really lovely. High toned, which only adds to the overall complexity. Racy on entry, with more notes of caramel and toffee. White truffle and Champignons de Paris. The finish is very long, carried by the positive volatile elements of within the acidity. Great wine.’ – Richard Kelley MW

Producer information One of the world’s largest and oldest wine stocks can be found at Moulin Touchais, established in 1787, on the banks of the Layon River in the Loire Valley. Comprising of about 2 million bottles dating back to the mid-19th century, Moulin Touchais guarantees its customers a century of longevity. The estate is renowned for a sweet Chenin aged for a minimum of 10 years in their seemingly endless cellars. The longevity and complexity of their wines is linked to a harvesting strategy where they pick at various stages for freshness and concentration and then bottle early – between 6-8 months after harvest.
