The 2022 Roodekrantz 1983 Old Vine Chenin from the Swartland offers pure stone fruit and delicate white chalk, with a touch of hay and spice. A project by Marius Burger Junior and Senior with winemaker Danie Morkel, their small-batch wines reflect the team’s passion for old-vine Chenin, viticulture and hands-off winemaking. In just a couple of vintages, they’ve produced enthralling wines with a real sense of place.

Pepe Raventós Mas del Serral 2012

This sparkling wine from Spanish visionary Pepe Raventós is a field blend of Xarel.lo and Graciano, from the oldest vineyard on the family property. It spent 100 months on the lees and is ‘fresher and younger than many wines that are three or four years older’ (Wine Advocate). It was Mas del Serral that changed Neal Martin’s perception of Cava: ‘There I was, stupid me, thinking cava was a cheap supermarket fodder for those that do not want to shell out for champagne. That erroneous assumption was addressed on day one.’ Only six bottles available.
