Chapoutier, Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem Blanc 2017
R 295 per bottle

With autumn approaching, it's time to enjoy some textured and expressive full-bodied white wines. Look no further than Chapoutier's 2017 Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem. From his Languedoc property in the south of France, the warmer temperatures and rugged soils give this blend of Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris its concentration and character. Preserved lime and baked orchard fruit coat the palate, finishing with a fresh acidity.

Wildeberg, Coterie Cinsault Rosé 2021
R 175 per bottle

After tasting this, we immediately snapped up the last few bottles! 100% Cinsault, it's a serious rosé with lovely, shy florals, tangy red fruit, and a dry, textured palate. The winemaker, JD, was inspired after tasting one of the best wines from the famed Château d'Esclans and set out to make something special of his own. If you are a fan of top-end Provence rosés, this is great local effort.

Querciabella, Mongrana 2019
R 275 per bottle

Querciabella's SA winemaker, Manfred Ing, continues to make waves in the Tuscan capital of Chianti. Known for his delicious Sangioveses, the 2019 Mongrana guarantees to over-deliver on its sheer drinking pleasure – at great value too. A vibrant blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it offers bright cherry and strawberry fruit mingled with fresh herbs and powdery tannins – perfectly paired with a classic margherita pizza.

Super Single Vineyards, Voorloper Syrah 2019
R 350 per bottle

The 2019 Voorloper Syrah has just been released and, when we tasted it in the office last week, it was focused and refined with tiers of flavour – a true Northern Rhône-style Syrah. Their maiden 2018 release scored a whopping 98-points from Christian Eedes and sold out in record time! But, to our minds, the 2019 is on par or even better. While this vintage is flying under the radar now, once word spreads of its incredible quality, it's bound to follow in the 2018's footsteps.

Niepoort, Tawny and Ruby non-vintage Ports
R 190 per bottle

Port is making a comeback, and Niepoort has been working on their craft since 1842. At only R190 per bottle, the Ruby and Tawny are excellent 'starter-Ports'. Both are field blends from low-yielding, old vines the Douro Valley in Portugal. Ruby Port is young and vibrant with dark red fruits, whilst Tawny Port is aged for a bit longer and shows aromas of nuts and dried fruit. Both are incredibly fresh, great with cheese, and perfect to keep you warm this winter!

Crystallum

Crystallum is run by brothers and 3rd-generation winemakers, Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson, who focus on Burgundian varieties. Within 15 years, they have positioned their winery as one of the top producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in SA. Their local and international awards are unrivalled, and their wines sell out on release every year.

Newton Johnson

Newton Johnson is a family-run winery, started by Cape Wine Master, Dave, and his wife, Felicity. Their sons, Bevan and Gordon, took over in the mid-2000s, joined by Gordon's wife, Nadia. Today, Newton Johnson is world-famous for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Along with multiple accolades, their Pinot has one of the longest consecutive runs of Platter's 5-star awards in history.

Storm Wines

In 2008, after 12 years at Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Hannes Storm discovered 2 tiny parcels with exceptional terroir and planted them with Pinot Noir, releasing his maiden 2012 vintage several years later. Today, Hannes is the only producer of Pinot in each of the 3 Hemel-en-Aarde wards and his Vrede is widely regarded as SA's benchmark Pinot.
