Wine Cellar Weekly: Age-worthy, 95-point Tria Corda, one of SA’s best Chenins & new arrivals from London

From Burgundy to London to the Cape, our weekly roundup has something for everyone. The Mary Delany 2020 joins its consistently-highly-rated predecessors with an impressive 96 points from Tim Atkin MW and is also one of his 2021 top Chenins. The age-worthy 2017 Overgaauw Tria Corda has rightfully placed in the Top 10 of Winemag's Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report – a great purchase for your cellar. Get your hands on some of André Bruyns' exciting, new wave, City on a Hill wines plus Iona's complex Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc. We're also excited to offer you four new, English wines which have just landed. Lastly, for Burgundy lovers, there are limited bottles left of Olivier Leflaive's well-priced and impressive Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly.

Botanica, Mary Delany Chenin Blanc 2020
R 450 per bottle

The Botanica Mary Delany is one of SA's very best and most consistent Chenin Blancs with multiple Platter's 5-star awards over the years. This trailblazing wine is produced from the coveted Citrusdal Mountain – home to Alheit's Magnetic North Mountain Makstok and Huilkrans and The Sadie Family's Skurfberg. We agree with Tim Atkin's recent statement that the 96-point 2020 is 'still under-priced for a wine of this stellar quality.'

Olivier Leflaive, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2017
R 995 per bottle

Olivier Leflaive is one of Burgundy's most impressive names and is known for his consistent quality and style of elegant and ethereal wines. The Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly 2017 is the epitome of classic 2017 Burgundy, showing lots of power, intensity and verve. En Remilly is arguably the top cru in Saint-Aubin with its terroir very similar to that of its famous neighbours, namely Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. This is a great value alternative to the ever-increasing prices of the more prestigious appellations.

Overgaauw, Tria Corda 2017
R 550 per bottle

'2017 Tria Corda is one of my favourite vintages since I took over the reigns as 4th generation winegrower in 2007,' says winemaker, David van Velden. The 2017 placed in the Top 10 of Winemag's 2021 Prescient Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report, scoring an outstanding 95 points. In addition, given this wine's excellent aging track record, David suggests that the 2017 will drink well for at least another 20 years.

London's urban wineries: London Cru & Blackbook
From R 460 per bottle

Just in, new wines from England! Explore some quirky and classic wines from two of London's urban wineries. Try a Bacchus (still white wine) from London Cru or explore the range from Blackbook. There is a classic, citrussy Chardonnay (from the rare Burgundian 277 Chardonnay clone – most are bubbly clones in England), an adventurous Pét-Nat from the lesser known Seyval Blanc variety or finally an unfined and unfiltered Pinot Noir. The South of England has similar soils to that of Champagne and Chablis. Will global warming turn England into the new frontier?
