The beautifully poised 2016 held its own in a blind tasting next to Smith Haut Lafitte 2016 (WA: 98 pts) and Sassicaia 2016 (WA: 100 pts), which retails for R8,000 per bottle! It's 'firmly established as one of the best in category', says Christian Eedes, who awarded it 95 points. The 2016 is of the highest possible quality.

Hubert Lamy, Saint-Aubin La Princée 2018

We absolutely loved this producer when we tasted his wines a few years ago. With similar terroir to its famous neighbours, Saint-Aubin is a great alternative to the pricier appellations of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Hubert Lamy's Saint-Aubin La Princée 2018 is a fine expression of the quality that's been coming out of the southern Côtes de Beaune in the last decade and often surpasses the more famous appellations in quality. Hubert's son Olivier, who previously worked at Méo-Camuzet, took over from his dad in 1996. Classy and refined, the generosity of the 2018 vintage is restrained by zesty citrus aromas and a floral bouquet.
