Wine Cellar Weekly: Top 6 on-trend rosés, our best-selling international wine & more

Rosé has been 'on the up' for the last 10 years and is massively on-trend, both locally and internationally. We organised a blind tasting of over 30 rosés last week to find our favourites. Discover the top 6 below!

We're delighted to have the Pesquié Le Paradou Grenache (one of our best-selling imports) back in stock, joined for the first time by the Le Paradou Cinsault. Our other top picks of the week come in at R200 and under, providing excellent value. These include Joostenberg's delicious Noble Late Harvest, the new 2021 Kara-Tara Chardonnay and a refreshing Pet Nat from Bosman.

Wine Cellar, The Way to Rosé 6-Pack
From R 95 per bottle

After tasting over 30 new and exciting rosés, we've put the top 6 into a 'pick & mix' pack. The Pio Cesare Rosy, one of our new imports, was a crowd-pleaser together with Leeuwenkuil's Rosé – a perennial Wine Cellar favourite. Lievland, 'the Whispering Angel of South Africa' (as per Tim Atkin MW) made the list, plus the crisp The Valley Pinot Noir Rosé from La Brune. The Baleia Deborah Rosé (new to Wine Cellar) was a hit and the Pesquié Côtes de Provence Le Paradou Rosé rounds off the pack.

Joostenberg, Estate Chenin Blanc Noble Late Harvest 2018
R 195 per bottle

This delicious Noble Late Harvest 'has become one of our most popular,' says Joostenberg. The golden wine has flavours of marmalade, apricot, pineapple and honeycomb with a lingering finish – it's a dessert on its own. Because 2018 was a dry year, noble rot was rare. The reduced crop yielded from this Botrytis-affected Chenin resulted in extremely small quantities and, at R195 a bottle, it is unmatchable in its value.

Pesquié, Le Paradou Grenache 2019 & Cinsault 2020
R 160 per bottle

Pesquié's Le Paradou Grenache, one of our all-time bestsellers and this summer's must-have-in-your-glass wine is back! For the first time ever, we also have the Le Paradou Cinsault. Both are matured in stainless steel and concrete. As a result, they are fresh, fruit-driven and exuberant. From old vines in Ventoux, these are knock-out wines at only R160 per bottle.

Kara-Tara, Chardonnay 2021
R 200 per bottle

2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year, Rudger van Wyk, and Stark-Condé owner, José Conde, started the Kara-Tara label with a vision to produce their favourite varietals from special vineyards. We tasted the Chardonnay 2021 recently and it is on track with the 2020 vintage which Christian Eedes called 'a revelation'. It shows exceptional fruit purity with notes of citrus, stone fruit and white flowers, followed by a zesty acidity and intriguing texture.

Bosman, Pet Nat Weisser Riesling 2021
R 185 per bottle

Pet Nat is gaining popularity and if you're unfamiliar with this sparkling wine, then we suggest you give Bosman's 100% Weisser Riesling Pet Nat a try. 'This wine smells like a soft spring day in the Cape mountains,' describes winemaker, Natasha Williams, who is featured on the label. It has fresh yet delicate bubbles, white stone fruit flavours and is juicy and refreshing.
