New Wave Pinotage: Wolf and Woman 2022

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Jolandie Fouché launched her own label, Wolf and Woman, in 2020 and she is ‘quickly taking her place among the most exciting of the so-called new wave movement, notes Christian Eedes. Her Pinotage is particularly striking, with Tim Atkin MW calling the 2021 ‘a wine for lovers of red Burgundy on a budget’.

Jolandie’s newly released 2022 Pinotage is ‘gorgeous’ and ‘just so pleasurable’, writes Christian. It exhibits enticing perfume and bright fruit, yet is poised and composed. The palate is crunchy and fresh with focused, deftly handled tannins and a bone-dry, energetic finish. It joins Ashbourne, B Vintners, Scions of Sinai, Illimis and Radford Dale in celebrating the unique fruit and tannin profile Pinotage can offer – as an alternative to other successful bolder styles.

New Wave Pinotage: Wolf and Woman 2022

The Wolf and Woman Pinotage 2022 is overwhelmingly from a 1973 Paardeberg vineyard, with 15% whole-bunch fermentation adding some spice and gentle tannin extraction. This is a small-batch production and very little is available.

To experience more of the freshness and lighter touch Pinotage can deliver, don’t miss our New Wave Pinotage 3-pack.

Tasting notes

Wolf and Woman Pinotage 2022

‘Grapes from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in 1973. 15% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting 10 months in older 500-litre barrels. Gorgeous aromatics of rose, fynbos, cherry, cranberry and pomegranate. The palate is pure and vibrant – great fruit concentration, bright acidity and chalky tannins. Poised, energetic and just so pleasurable. Alc: 12.5%.’Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

Notes on the 2021 vintage:

‘Right up there with my favourite South African Pinotages, this is a wine for lovers of red Burgundy on a budget. Fermented with 15% whole bunches, it's overwhelmingly from a 1973 vineyard, but includes 10% younger material. Tangy, spicy and refreshing, with a lovely sense of energy and bramble, baking spice and wild strawberry flavours. 2023-30.’Tim Atkin MW, 95/100
