This is one of the most unforgettable South African wines we have encountered. First tasted in December 2024, the Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2010 is an exceptionally rare release and a testament to the estate’s 340 years of greatness.

The wine is a celebration of tertiary complexity, with an extra-long and lingering finish. The 2010 harvest was down 90% on previous years, so the vintage was initially deemed too small to release and spent 15 years in barrel. With aromatics akin to Tawny, Madeira and old Sherry, but offering more freshness, it’s a true collector’s item.

From its founding in 1685 to its revival in the 1980s, Klein Constantia has become a cornerstone of South Africa’s viticultural heritage. This rare find is ready to be enjoyed now but will mature for decades to come.

'Tasting this wine in December 2024 was an unforgettable experience. It stood out as one of the most complex South African wines we have ever tasted. Its evolution continues with every visit, offering new layers of nuanced aromas and flavours. The wine offers notes of rose geranium, toffee, caramel, and walnut shell on the nose, with apple strudel, rhubarb, kai apple, and curry spice on the palate, evolving to savoury honey and a hint of saltiness.
