Domaine Trimbach: 400 years of Alsace mastery

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Domaine Trimbach is one of the steadfast stars in the Alsace firmament, says Vinous. They’ve been cultivating some of the world’s best dry Rieslings for almost 400 years, from entry-level offerings that are ‘better than ever’ to their showstopping Clos Ste Hune‘the only Alsace wine that’s appreciated just as much for investment as for drinking’ (Decanter).

A signature wine that’s been made for centuries is the magnificent Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile 2018. It’s crafted from two Grand Cru vineyards that overlook the estate and shows richness underneath with strong, racy citrus notes (Jancis Robinson).

The Trimbach Riesling 2022 is a terrific introduction to the range, offering citrus, chamomile and flint on the palate. A step up in concentration and complexity, the Trimbach Riesling Réserve 2022 is stony, bright, juicy, lip-smacking and taut (Vinous).

The star of the show, however, has to be the Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2018 – a collectors' dream. At 99+ points, the 2018 vintage is the second-highest-rated Clos Ste Hune in Wine Advocate history – just a breath behind the 100-point 1989. This harmonious Riesling is crafted from a tiny parcel and combines great finesse and salinity with power and substance (Wine Advocate).

Due to limited availability, the Clos Ste Hune is only available in a pack, which includes Trimbach’s delicious, complex Pinot Gris (Jancis Robinson) from 2018, the ‘vivid’ Trimbach Pinot Noir Réserve 2022 (Vinous), the Riesling Réserve, and two Frédéric Emile 2018s.

Tasting notes

Trimbach Riesling Frederic Emile 2018

'A super-elegant dry riesling for the hot and dry 2018 vintage! Brimming with kafir-lime, mirabelle-plum and dried-mint aromas. Great underplayed power on the medium- to full-bodied palate. The concentration seems to build with the chalky minerality at the overwhelming finish! From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.'Stewart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, 98/100

Trimbach Riesling 2022

'The 2022 Riesling is from countless vineyards between Scherwiller in the north and the Vallé Noble in the south and mainly based on marl limestone soils. The nose is clear, fresh and intensely aromatic and even displays some Muscat and herbal/stony aromas, which makes it more than just Riesling. On the palate, this is a dry but round and textured, quite rich, intense and powerful yet certainly elegant, savory and stimulating Riesling with food-friendly grip, salts and tension on the crisp finish. 12.8% alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.'Stephan Reinhardt, Wine advocate, 91/100

Trimbach Riesling Réserve 2022

'The 2022 Riesling Réserve is from top vineyards in Ribeauvillé and Bergheim that haven't been sourced for the grands crus but are partly seriously old. Bottled in April 2023 and already released, the wine displays a clear and refined, intense and elegant bouquet of fully ripe and spicy fruits but also remarkably floral talents. The wine is lush and intense on the refined and elegant palate, provided with some Muscat-like aromas, ripe, saline acidity and very fine tannins. The finish is harmonious, fruit-intense and backed up by a serious mineral structure. Superb. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.'Stephan Reinhardt, Wine advocate, 93/100

Trimbach Clos St Hune 2018

'The 2018 Riesling Clos Ste Hune is deep and intense on the very generous yet refined and elegant, rich and lemon-scented nose that indicates enormous richness. It's very harmonious. Full-bodied, very intense and concentrated yet also vital and full of tension, this is a very rich and powerful yet elegant und utterly mineral CSH that combines great finesse and salinity with power and substance. This is a giant. 14.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.'Stephan Reinhardt, Wine advocate, 99+/100

Trimbach Pinot Gris Réserve 2018

'Distinctive and well-done, with a pronounced earthiness sharing the stage with notes of warm apple, quince and candied ginger in this late-release wine. Time has softened the acidity on a supple, savory palate, layering toasted brioche, brine and dried flower petal details. A hint of honey water graces the elegant, well-meshed finish. Drink now through 2028.'Kristen Bieler, Wine Spectator, 91/100

Trimbach Pinot Noir Réserve 2022

'If you haven’t caught up with the Alsace pinot noir revolution, then this excellent example will bring you up to speed. Enticing sour cherry, wild blackberry and licorice aromas are wrapped around the beautifully crafted velvety tannins. Long finish with delicate earthy notes. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.'Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, 93/100
