Thanks to old vines, high altitude and stellar winemaking, the 2023 Mary Delany is among the greatest wines we’ve tasted this year. The citrussy acidity adds remarkable verve to the palate. There’s real stone fruit concentration, with notes of jasmine stem, chamomile, and a crushed stone minerality. In short, it’s ‘complex’ and ‘oozes class’, says Platter’s.

Mary Delany has been a trailblazing wine since 2011, when it was one of only two Chenins to earn 5 stars. It hails from the Citrusdal Mountain slopes – home to Alheit’s Magnetic North and Huilkrans, as wells as Sadie Family’s Skurfberg. While production here is tiny, the site is regarded as SA’s finest Chenin Blanc ‘cru’.
