‘For… those who like hand-crafted, highly individual wines that express the place where they were grown and are sensibly priced too, Languedoc-Roussillon is the perfect playground.’ – Jancis Robinson MW

Dear *|FNAME|*,

The Chapoutier Bila-Haut Rouge and Blanc – Wine Cellar’s favourite duo from the Côtes du Roussillon – continue to offer some of the best value in our portfolio! There’s a return to freshness with the 2021 vintage, and both the 2021 Bila-Haut Rouge and Blanc are beautifully balanced.

‘The straight Bila-Haut is a no-brainer purchase,’ says the Wine Advocate on the rouge. It’s a moreish, red-fruited, medium-bodied blend of Syrah, Grenache and Carignan with a mineral, dry finish. Here just in time for spring, the 2021 Bila-Haut Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne and Macabeu. It’s perfumed, with citrus, mineral notes and a salty finish.

Domaine de Bila-Haut: Legendary Languedoc-Roussillon

The Bila-Haut vineyards are organic and biodynamically farmed. Known for their steep terraces, craggy limestone soils, and low-yielding old vines, these parcels produce wines with flavour and depth, balanced by a stone-like minerality. The sunny climate of the Languedoc-Roussillon gives the wines their generosity, whilst the schist soils offer good freshness.

With Jancis Robinson singing the praises of the outstanding quality coming out of the Côtes du Roussillon, we can’t agree more that everyone should ‘take advantage’ of these ‘seriously under-priced’  wines.

Tasting notes

Chapoutier Bila Haut Rouge 2021

‘Aromas of dark cherries, leaves, gunpowder and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with crunchy dark cherries and some black pepper on the palate. Transparent and precise with a flavorful finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.’James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 91/100

‘Deep garnet red. Aromas of black cherry. This wine is fleshy, well-structured with the warm and savage of soils of the Roussillon area. To drink within 2 years.’Winemaker

Chapoutier Bila-Haut Blanc 2021

‘The Chapoutier Bila Haut Blanc 2021 is a classic expression of a Rhône white, offering great value. A blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussane, Marsanne and Macabeu, it is vibrant and aromatic. Mineral tinged lemon and lime fruits mingle with spiced peach and orchard for a lingering finish.’Kenny Nassen, Aug 2023

‘Fresh and very aromatic attack. The palate is round, with a great acidity (coming from the later ripening sites at higher altitude). A lot of freshness on the finish mixed with salty notes, which express the minerality of the wine.’Winemaker
