‘The 2022 Chardonnay opens with aromas of lemon yogurt and peach skin before sweet Meyer lemon and nutty essence waft from the glass. Light to medium-bodied and with 12.5% alcohol, the palate is subtly spiced with a mineral tension that expands to cover the palate. It shows a fresh, complex mouthfeel that compresses slightly before offering a subdued finish. Just over 25,000 bottles were produced from barrel-fermented Chardonnay. | Producer information | Kara-Tara is a joint-venture between Rudger van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) and José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines. The name Kara-Tara refers to a small town near Knysna, where winemaker Rudger van Wyk grew up. Translated from the traditional Khoisan, it means 'deep dark shadows' and refers to the Karatara river that runs through the town. |
