Helderberg Winery, Reserve Red Blend 2021 – R 192
‘Boekenhoutskloof's winemaker Marc Kent is famous for his Syrah wines – his Syrah, The Chocolate Block, has been a Majestic staple for years – but this red blend show's he's no one-trick pony. Cabernet Sauvignon with just a dash of Cinsault and Syrah, this has been aged in French oak (30% new) for 14-16 months. Lush, with ripe blackcurrant fruit, spice and some creamy oak influence, there's an appealing freshness to the wine, which makes you want to reach for a second glass. 2023-2027’ – Amy Wislocki, Decanter, 91/100
Pesquié, Terrasses Ventoux Rouge 2021 – R 235
'A rough blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah (there are a few other varieties in there), the 2021 Ventoux Terrasses offers a juicy Grenache nose of ripe red and black berries, peppery herbs, and violets, with some chalky minerality that comes through on the palate. Medium-bodied, lively, and fresh, with good density, it delivers ripe tannins and a great finish. It should easily be an outstanding wine.' – Jeb Dunnuck, 92/100
