Aromatics are not surprisingly still rather primary at this stage with notes of lemon, orange, oatmeal and nutmeg while the palate has good depth of fruit matched by tangy acidity – big and generous, the end nicely dry. The oaking is perfectly judged and already well integrated giving way to notes of nutmeg, spice and a medium-to-full body weight. The finish is delicate, chalky and long with nuances of white florals and oak spice coming through on the end. | Producer information | Crystallum, based in Walker Bay, South Africa, is a family-run and privately-owned winery which began in 2007. Brothers Andrew and Peter-Allan are the third generation of Finlayson winemakers and sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir winemaking in the Hemel-en-Aarde region. They specialise in the Burgundian varieties, and follow a low intervention winemaking approach. Peter-Allan Finlayson is a leader in producing some of the finest modern-day SA Pinots.
