Wade Sander is a bright Young Gun making exquisite wines. He cut his teeth as the assistant winemaker at Mullineux Wines. This 94-point, 75:25 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon is both concentrated and racy.
'Winemaking for the Syrah 2018 involved 40% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting 10 months in older oak. The nose shows red and black berries, charcuterie and white pepper while the palate has nice clarity and density of fruit, good freshness and quite soft tannins, the finish gently savoury. | Producer information | Brett and Wade Sander acquired the Cold Mountain Vineyards in 2016 after over 2 years of searching the Cape Winelands for the perfect farm. It is situated in a valley known as Sondagskloof, within the Walker Bay region. The farm, which follows organic and biodynamic practices, consists of 417 hectares with 17 hectares under vine. Cold Mountain Vineyards experiences a cool climate with a maritime influence and has a longer growing season. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sémillon and Syrah are all grown on the farm. |
