‘Fresh, mineral and endowed with a terrific juiciness. An extraordinary nose of lemon balm, apple slices, apricot peel, curry, tobacco and dried meadow flowers. The palate is very linear with bite and texture through to the finish. It shows weight in the glass but is perfectly balanced. ‘The 2022 Riesling vom grauen Schiefer was harvested chiefly in the upper reaches and crest of the Marienburg site, where the influence of the river is lessened, and the wines turn out more slender. The nose brims with ripe Mirabelle edged with citrus, but there is juicy ripeness, suffused with a little slatey smoke. The slender palate puts its lemon flavors to the fore and supplements them with an edge of lemon pithiness and a mouth-watering, salty tang. Very moreish. | Producer information | Clemens is the 5th-generation winemaker at his family estate and began using organic practices in 1984. Later a pioneer in biodynamics, Clemens Busch is now a role model for natural, but precise German winemaking. Unlike most of the Mosel region, however, Clemens focuses on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of this historic region. Their unique soils in the town of Pündericherallow them to produce many iterations of the Riesling grape. Clemens Busch is based on the 3 types of slate – red, blue and grey – each imparting different characteristics and styling. |
