‘The 2018 Marienburg Auslese Falkenlay opens to aromas of tropical fruit intermixed with lemon and lime chutney notes and an almost peppery slate tone on the nose. Of the three Auslese bottlings—Falkenlay, Rothenpfad and Fahrlay—this Falkenlay is the most exciting one of the trio. On the palate, this is a sweet, lush, piquant and stimulating Riesling Auslese with a sweet and textured palate and a salty-piquant and beautifully nervy finish. A twist of lime adds to the invigorating sizzle of ginger, lending welcome counterpoint on a pure, long-lasting but dominantly sweet finish. | Producer information | Clemens is the 5th-generation winemaker at his family estate and began using organic practices in 1984. Later a pioneer in biodynamics, Clemens Busch is now a role model for natural, but precise German winemaking. Unlike most of the Mosel region, however, Clemens focuses on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of this historic region. Their unique soils in the town of Pündericherallow them to produce many iterations of the Riesling grape. Clemens Busch is based on the 3 types of slate – red, blue and grey – each imparting different characteristics and styling. |
