    Where it all began...

    • 1960s

      David Brice

      David Brice started drinking and collecting wines while studying for a chemical engineering degree at UCT in the early 1960s.

    • 1960s

      Richard Burnett

      During this time, Richard Burnett, who is a born and bred Yorkshire man, was leaving the UK for Australia where he would live for six years before moving to South Africa.

    • 1995

      ‘Wine Cellar Club’

      David met Richard in Cape Town while looking for better cellaring conditions for his growing wine collection. Together, they started the ‘Wine Cellar Club’.

    • 2000

      Wine Cellar Founded

      Richard and David transformed the club into a business in December 2000 and Wine Cellar was founded. They began importing European wines into Cape Town, whilst offering specialised wine storage at our cellars in Observatory.

    • 2003

      Bordeaux En-Primeur

      David offered Bordeaux 2002 en-primeur for the first time - in conjunction with London broker Paul Hoar of Vintage Holdings.

    • 2005

      Roland Peens

      In November 2005, David and Richard hired Roland to manage and grow the business.

    • 2020

      James Pietersen

      In December 2020, James took over the reins as CEO of Wine Cellar and, as they say, the rest is history...
