‘The 2019 Finca San Martín is pure Tempranillo from the younger vines on richer soils, the grapes not used for Martelo that deliver rounder and fruitier wines. It fermented in stainless steel for 14 days with a slow malolactic of 74 days and matured in 60% new American oak barrels and 40% second-use French oak barrels for 16 months. It's round and fruity, with juicy fruit, round tannins and a gentle mouthfeel. It was bottled in September 2021. 2022 - 2026’ – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 91+/100

Intense and complex nose with hints of red fruits (redcurrant, wild strawberries), forest floor notes and fresh pastry, chocolate, ground coffee and white pepper aromas. | Producer information | Established in 1987, Torre de Oña was bought by La Rioja S.A in 1995 with the aim of making wine of excellent quality. Located in Rioja Alavesa subzone, the 45 hectare estate specializes in single-vineyard Tempranillo. They also produce small quantities of Mazuela, Garnacha and Viura. In 2005 the winery went a step further in improving their quality by thoroughly studying it’s soils in order to determine the specific characteristics of each site and were the first to use optical sorting of grapes in the region. |
