Damascene, W.O. Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc 2022 – R 495
‘Grapes from three Bottelary vineyards planted in 1972, 1980 and 1982 respectively. Complex aromatics of pear, peach, nectarine, lemon and fynbos while the palate shows very good delineation and directness – pure fruit and bright acidity before a salty finish. Absolutely packed with flavour.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100
Alheit Vineyards, Hereafter Here 2022 – R 295
‘Mostly a young vineyard Chenin Blanc, grapes from Swartland, Upper Blaauwklippen and Polkadraai Hills plus some older vine parcels from the Paardeberg. Some flinty reduction before pear, peach and citrus as well as some floral perfume on the nose. Good fruit density, well coated acidity and some light grip to the finish. Relatively thick textured (alc: 13.34%) with layers of flavour.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100
Huet, Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec 2022 – R 495
‘The 2022 Vouvray “Clos du Bourg” Demi-Sec also comes in at an even thirteen percent octane in this vintage (like the le Haut Lieu version) and offers up absolutely stunning purity and depth on the nose. The bouquet is a gorgeous blend of apple, sweet quince, a complex base of chalky minerality, white lilies, honeycomb, orange zest, bee pollen and an exotic touch of lavender in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, seamless and full, with stunning depth at the core, great soil inflection, zesty acids and laser-like focus on the very long, perfectly balanced and complex finish. This has that same ethereal lightness of step of the le Haut Lieu Demi-Sec and both wines remind me very strongly of the legendary 1989s here when they too were young! 2023-2085.’ – John Gilman, View From The Cellar, 96/100
