The Mother Rock Liquid Skin 2021 is a skin-contact Swartland Chenin from Stompie, and it’s consistently our favourite of the Mother Rock range (alongside the Mother Rock White of course). It ‘provides lots of pleasure’, agrees Christian Eedes, scoring it 95 points! A beautiful light orange colour, the wine has soft citrus top notes followed by buchu, tea leaf and white stone fruit. Pure-fruited with zesty acidity, the extended time on skin results in great complexity and attractive tannins.

The 2010 vintage of Champagne Drappier’s rare Grande Sendrée is 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. ‘Grande Sendrée is constantly the most exciting wine from Aube,’ writes Champagne specialist Richard Juhlin. Wine Spectator calls it a ‘quietly elegant Champagne’, while the Wine Advocate describes it as ‘bright, concentrated, youthfully tightly wound with an elegant pin point mousse.’ It’s powerful yet restrained and has an impossibly long, chalky finish. Though showing well now, it will easily keep for another decade in bottle.
