Lourens Family Wines Skuinskap Steen 2022
R 465 PER BOTTLE
We snagged the last few bottles of the 97-point Skuinskap 2022 from Franco Lourens and trust us, it’s drinking superbly! Planted in 1977 in Piekenierskloof, the wine is ‘poised and super-complex’ with ‘excellent fruit density and punchy acidity’, notes Christian Eedes. ‘High elevation, sandstone soils and a dodgy trellised system – that is what makes this wine so unique’, says Franco. So special, so rare, and fewer than 40 bottles available.

Terre Nere Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo 2021
R 700 per bottle
Described by Decanter as a wine that ‘combines fruit forwardness with lip-smacking sapidity in a glorious way’, this Etna gem offers bright cherry, wild berry fruit, orange peel, herbs, and rose, all layered over a mineral backbone. The Feudo di Mezzo site creates profoundly velvety wines that evolve gracefully with age. The 2021 vintage produced grapes with great concentration and complexity, and this wine offers a marvellous drinking experience now, or an opportunity to store something memorable for a later date.

Laventura La Nave Blanco 2022
R 230 per bottle
This is a stunning expression of two Rioja white varietals – Viura and Garnacha Blanc. The wine is crafted from a selection of meticulously chosen vineyard plots, honouring the region’s tradition of methodical blending while showcasing the diverse terroirs. Bryan MacRobert carefully walks the line between traditional and innovative winemaking techniques, producing wines with ‘character, balance and elegance’ (Wine Advocate). The La Nave Banco 2022 shows citrus, stone fruits, a hint of salinity, and a fresh, textural finish that reflects a small amount of lees ageing. Enjoy it on warm evenings, or pair it with seafood and tapas.

Raventós i Blanc De Nit Extra Brut 2022
R 415 per bottle
‘Dry, vibrant and delicate’, says Vinous, Raventós i Blanc delivers a seductive blend of Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada, and Monastrell. Spanish bubbly is a category that’s rapidly rising in quality, and this terrific rosé is no exception, offering nuanced notes of cherry and citrus complemented by a touch of floral complexity and a soft mousse. Certified biodynamic and working in the Penedès vineyards since 1497, each wine the Raventós family creates is a distinct journey that captures the history and excellence of Spanish winemaking. David & Nadia Grenache Noir 2023
R 435 per bottle
‘A breath of fresh air’, says Tamlyn Currin of South African reds and the winemakers behind them. David & Nadia’s 2023 Grenache is one of these wines. From four vineyards across the Swartland and with 60% whole bunch, the 2023 vintage is ‘pure and wonderfully balanced’, writes Christian Eedes. This will age beautifully for a decade. But if, like us, you can’t resist, we suggest you pop one in the fridge for an hour and smash a bottle with friends after work.
