This week’s bevy of beauties includes one of our favourite white wines to drink in January – Keermont Terrasse White Blend 2022. If you’re looking for a red you can serve slightly chilled, the detailed and spicy 2022 Syrah from Daniel Colombo is our go-to, and a must for Rhône enthusiasts. Daniel Dampt Chablis 2023 is everything you want in a classy Burgundian Chardonnay, and don’t miss the incredibly limited Fleur Cardinale Édition Rugby Spirit 2021 Magnum – a ‘gorgeous, impeccably balanced wine’ (Vinous). We end off with the 98-point Dom Pérignon P2 2006, which is among the world’s most sought-after Champagnes.

Keermont’s Terrasse 2022 offers texture, beautiful ripe stone fruit and refreshing acidity, pairing spectacularly well with roast chicken on the beach. We agree with Christian Eedes that this wine is ‘great quality relative to price’. If you’re looking for a wine that ticks all the boxes, this is the one and we have just under 18 bottles left.

Daniel Colombo Wines Syrah 2022
R 295 per bottle
The 2022 Daniel Colombo Syrah impresses with notes of grapefruit, blackberries, delicate florals and a mix of white and black pepper. From two vineyards, one in Elgin and the other a Gabrielskloof Shale vineyard in Bot River, it offers remarkable freshness and brightness of fruit. We love serving it slightly chilled.

Fleur Cardinale Édition Rugby Spirit 2021 Magnum
R 3,150 per bottle
Collectors alert! Every year Fleur Cardinale does a thematic bottling of the grand vin, in magnum, to commemorate an event. In 2023, to celebrate France hosting the Rugby World Cup, the 2021 was named ‘Rugby Spirit Edition’. The standard Fleur Cardinale crest on the label was amended to represent the major rugby countries from the southern and northern hemispheres. ‘I love this one – a real success of the vintage,’ says Georgina Hindle of Decanter.

Dom Pérignon Plenitude P2 2006
R 7,250 per bottle
The magnificent 2006 P2 is a blend of 55% Pinot noir and 45% Chardonnay, with a dosage of only 4.5 g/L. ‘The balance of exoticness and freshness is just mind-blowing,’ enthuses Antonio Galloni. The P2 stands for Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 Series, where some bottles from the vintage are kept twice as long on the lees as the normal release, ‘letting time work its magic and thus acquiring additional complexity’ (Wine Advocate).
