Revered by wine-lovers around the world, Dirk Niepoort has achieved the ultimate 'sweet spot' for producing thrilling Douro Valley wines. His Niepoort Vertente 2018 is 'always one of the winery's best values,' according to Wine Advocate and is a wine that 'hangs with the big boys' (i.e. on the same level as more prestigious cuvées). It is elegant and refined with crunchy, red fruit, preceding aromas of graphite and dried herbaceous spice. Offering wonderful drinkability, it can still hold for another decade.

Van Loggerenberg Wines, Break a Leg Chardonnay 2021
R 150 per bottle

Many of you are familiar with Lukas van Loggerenberg's ever-popular Break a Leg Blanc de Noir, but did you know, two new additions joined the label last year – a Chardonnay and Merlot? We're pleased to offer the new 2021 Break a Leg Chardonnay which is more focused and savoury than the previous maiden release. Complementing the freshness of Polkadraai, fruit from Devon Valley offers incredible density. Restrained reduction marries lemon curd, oyster shell minerality and a zesty acidity, making a fine, light-bodied wine. A steal at R150.

Glenelly, Glass Collection Cabernet Franc 2017
R 200 per bottle

We tasted Glenelly's 2017 Glass Collection Cabernet Franc last week and immediately knew we had to share this elegant wine with you. Oregano, mint and violets on the nose follow onto a palate packed with dark red and black fruit, silky tannins and a long, smooth finish. '[It] wouldn't look out of place in the Loire Valley,' says Tim Atkin MW. From an excellent vintage, this is simply a delicious Cabernet Franc!
