Sticking with women winemakers this month, we have a unique (and super approachable) Chenin Blanc from Jocelyn Hogan Wilson, plus Cerina van Niekerk's easy-drinking, everyday Rococo Red. We have just received a small parcel of the excellently-priced Château La Brande 2014 – an under-the-radar gem from the satellite appellation of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Lastly, look no further than Shannon's Mount Bullet for one of SA's leading Merlots.

Hogan, The Lift NV
R 215 per bottle
Jocelyn’s experimental Swartland Chenin Blanc is exceptionally interesting. From the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages, 50% was aged under flor yeast. The wine has fresh, concentrated notes of lemon, savoury green olives and almonds on the palate and an intriguing saline acidity and umami finish. It's a perfect companion to your Sunday roast and a great introduction to this style of wine.

Wind Band, Rococo Red 2020
R 90 per bottle
This week's value pick (coming in at under R 100) is the Wind Band Rococo Red made by Cerina van Niekerk. It's a delicious, light and elegant, everyday blend with juicy red fruit and pairs well with beef steak, lamb shawarma, and venison. Wind Band is the sister brand of Cecilia Wines and a portion of the sales of their wines goes towards the Cecilia Foundation NPO.

La Brande, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2014
R 295 per bottle
Ticking all the boxes, Château La Brande 2014 showcases incredible balance, complexity and is drinking beautifully right now. From the Right Bank's Mangot Todeschini stable, this under-the-radar, Merlot-based blend (with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc) offers dark-fruited generosity, with tertiary notes of leather, tobacco and earthiness complementing a satisfyingly long and dry finish. We only have a small parcel of this wine available.

Shannon, Mount Bullet Merlot 2018
R 500 per bottle
The Shannon Mount Bullet 2018 continues to establish its dominance as a leading SA Merlot. Richly textured, it showcases luscious dark fruit of black cherries, plums and juicy raspberries complemented by a cool, savoury core of cedar and fresh, tilled earth. The cooling influence of the Elgin Valley restrains the opulent fruit, offering remarkable freshness and elegant structure.
