Thistle & Weed, beautiful Barbaresco & our upcoming Van Loggerenberg tasting

Dear *|FNAME|*,

We're looking forward to announcing our much-anticipated new tasting line-up next week, so keep an eye on your inbox for details. In the meantime, we can reveal that the first event on the calendar is Van Loggerenberg's brilliant new releases with imports to match on the 21st of June. Join us in Cape Town and be the first to taste Lukas' outstanding 2021s.

Our international wine highlights this week are a seductive Loire Cabernet Franc from Thierry Germain, and the 2017 Barbaresco from Pio Cesare – a Piedmont legend. On the local front, Thistle and Weed's 2021 Khakibos has just been released. It's a killer white blend and, though not yet rated, we believe it matches the stature of the 5-star 2020.

Not to be missed, our upcoming tasting with Lukas van Loggerenberg will showcase his six brilliant 2021 releases. Lukas is known to make some of the best Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah in South Africa, so join us to taste his new wines, as well his sought-after Trust Your Gut and The Graft. The tasting will be conducted blind and will include international reference points. The wines will be served along with charcuterie bites.

Thistle & Weed, Khakibos White 2021
R 275 per bottle

Young Guns Stephanie Wiid and Etienne Terblanche continue to raise the bar of their small batch, terroir-expressive wines. The Khakibos is a sought-after Cape white blend and rightly deserves the high praise it receives. The newly released 2021 is on a par with the 'exquisite' 2020, which scored 5 stars from Platter's. The wine is complex and layered, showing notes of fennel bulb, white peach and apricots, complemented by a dry, savoury finish with pointed texture and salinity.

Pio Cesare, Barbaresco 2017
R 995 per bottle

This 2017 Barbaresco from Pio Cesare, one of Piedmont's greatest names and oldest families, is a stunner. It's bright, spiced and super classic. Antonio Galloni praised the 2017 Barolo and Barbarescos, saying that the '2017s have a degree of finesse that I have never seen before'. We couldn't agree more! It shows beautifully now but will age gracefully until about 2040 – a truly bankable Barbaresco.

Thierry Germain, Saumur-Champigny 2020
R 440 per bottle

Cabernet Franc lovers will appreciate Thierry Germain's 'painstaking attention to detail', says Greg Sherwood, showcased in his classy Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc 2020. This a great introduction to Thierry's hallmark terroir-driven wines. The densely packed red and black-fruited core marries well with the floral aromatics and crushed stone-like tannins, offering a seductive yet restrained wine. This Cabernet Franc is 'certainly a thing of beauty', continues Greg.
