Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah 2020 – The pinnacle of South African fine wine

Dear *|FNAME|*,

The Boschkloof Epilogue Syrah is firmly established as one of the finest expressions of Stellenbosch Syrah. It has reached the pinnacle of South African fine wine, with an average of 98 points from Tim Atkin!

The recently tasted 2020 follows on previous releases with its enchanting and inviting floral aromas, blood orange and garrigue notes. The palate shows fleshy, deep fruit with a citrus edge and long, fine-grained tannins, and the oak is beautifully incorporated for a defined and skilfully rendered expression of this benchmark Syrah.

This wine has become highly sought after and is bound to sell out on release.

After his trailblazing success with Syrah at La Motte in the late '80s and early '90s, Jacques Borman planted the Epilogue vineyard in 1996. It is planted with the rare SH99 clone on decomposed granitic soils in the Stellenbosch Hills. The 2014 was the first SA wine to score 98 points from an international critic, and the rest is history. Reenen continues to take this wine to new levels and his craftmanship is honed with each new release. The Boschkloof Epilogue 2020 was 30% whole-bunch fermented, with 66% in concrete and the rest in new 400-litre French oak.

Deliveries will take place during the first week of July.

Tasting notes

Boschkloof, Epilogue Syrah 2020

'30% whole-bunch, two-third fermented and matured for some 14 – 16 months in cement, one-third in 400-litre barrels, all new. Genteel aromatics of red and black berries plus violets, subtle notes of dried herbs, cinnamon and white pepper. The palate is precise and detailed – the wine is medium bodied but there is a certain succulence to the fruit and good freshness, while the tannins are wonderfully fine-grained, making for a texture that is smooth, almost creamy. Precise and detailed, this has a finesse that is a result of exacting craftsmanship. A modest 13.5% in alcohol, it's nevertheless not insubstantial or lacking in intensity.' – Christian Eedes, 96/100
