Tasting notes
Boekenhoutskloof, Syrah 2019
'The wine that launched the modern Syrah revolution in South Africa, even if it's sourced from two sites in the Swartland these days, rather than Somerset West. Almost indecently perfumed and alluring, this is a very immediate wine that will also reward cellaring. Sweet spices, red berry fruit, fine, savoury tannins and just a hint of oak with energetic acidity. 2023-31.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 97/100
Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
'The Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon contains 10% Cabernet Franc and comes from four sites in the valley. Picked a week before the Stellenbosch bottling, it's fresher, gentler and lighter in style, with flflfloral top notes, chocolatey oak, granular tannins and a spicy, herbal, lifted fififinish. 2023-31.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 95/100
Boekenhoutskloof, Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
'Power & precision combine in stellar 2019. Ripe black cherry fruit with lifted perfume notes (dab cab franc, as Franschhoek sibling), fine integrated tannins & fresh, lithe appeal. 75% new French oak adds to muscular richness completing very fine wine. 5 parcels in Helderberg, Polkadraai & Faure.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (97/100)
Boekenhoutskloof, Sémillon 2019
'This world-class Semillon combines fruit from three sites in Franschhoek, planted in 1902, 1936 and 1942. Three per cent Muscat adds a touch of orange marmalade to the leesy, flinty, lanolin and struck match palate. Less oaky than in the past and all the better for it. Long and complex. 2022-29.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report, 96/100
