Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022 Bottle size: 750ml
France, Burgundy
R3,100
‘The 2022 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is a complex, dynamic wine. I especially admire its focus. Pear, slate, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all hover across the palate in a Meursault that marries fruit richness with layers of depth and explosive energy. In other words, classic Genevrières. The 2022 is quite reticent today, but I take that as a positive sign for the future. What a gorgeous wine this is. 2026-22037’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 94-96/100
‘A bright yellow with a green streak. First up the nose suggests opulence more than the finesse of Genevrières, and the oak shines through, but there is a fine linear intensity behind and the herbal notes of this vineyard resurface. Exceptional persistence, over and above the others. 2030-2037.’ - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, 93-96/100
‘There is a natural exoticism in the form of Asian style jasmine tea present on the aromas of Granny Smith apples, acacia blossom and plenty of citrus elements. The racy and refined mineral-driven flavors possess a gorgeous, even classy, mouthfeel while being supported by a lemon-tinged acid spine on the finish that goes on and on. This is terrific and despite the fact that it is clearly built to repay up to a decade of keeping, it is already so delicious that it will be hard to resist young. 2030+’ - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 94/100

Producer information | Based in Meursault, between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay, Henri Boillot is at the epicentre of great winemaking. The Boillots have been tending vines and making wines since 1885. Henri joined in 1975, bought out his siblings in 2005 and his son, Guillaume, joined in 2008. It totals 19 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white. Included herein, is 4 hectares of the famous Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère which has developed a cult following. In a very short space of time, they’ve built an extraordinary reputation for the sheer quality of their Burgundy wines, it is no surprise that Allen Meadows thinks this superstar producer ‘has arguably become the finest pure négoce specializing in white Burgundy today’.
‘Henri Boillot is often quoted as the best white wine négociant in Burgundy and there is no quality difference between his négociant and domaine wines. His son Guillaume is now in charge of the reds, which have seemingly become more elegant, pure and ethereal.’ – Roland Peens |
