‘The 2022 Volnay Les Chevrets 1er Cru is a classic Boillot wine. It bursts from the glass with racy red/purplish fruit. Lavender, rose petal, cinnamon and new leather are all beautifully delineated. ‘A soft application of wood can be found on the ripe liqueur-like nose of dark raspberry, cassis and anise. There is a bit more volume to the beautifully textured and seductively rich medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a sleek, focused and sneaky long finish where a touch of bitter pit fruit character slowly emerges. Producer information Based in Meursault, between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Volnay, Henri Boillot is at the epicentre of great winemaking. The Boillots have been tending vines and making wines since 1885. Henri joined in 1975, bought out his siblings in 2005 and his son, Guillaume, joined in 2008. It totals 19 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white. Included herein, is 4 hectares of the famous Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère which has developed a cult following. In a very short space of time, they’ve built an extraordinary reputation for the sheer quality of their Burgundy wines, it is no surprise that Allen Meadows thinks this superstar producer ‘has arguably become the finest pure négoce specializing in white Burgundy today’.
