‘2012 suffered from a severe hailstorm which decimated crops, but the surviving grapes were of good quality. 50% of the base wine, as well as the liqueur de tirage and liqueur d'expédition, were matured in oak. The resulting wine has a biscuity, toasty nose with a streak of fresh lemon, and it's also very lemony on the palate, cutting through its rich brioche and lees character. Oak tannins lend it some structure, and the acidity is very bright, giving this vintage expression fantastic balance.’ – James Button, Decanter, 93/100

| Producer information | The House of Drappier was established during Napoleonic times, though its Urville cellars date back to the 12th century. Considered to be one of Champagne's greatest boutique producers, Drappier's vintage and prestige cuvées were famously collected by Charles de Gaulle - the French general and statesman who led the Free French Forces during the Second World War. Drappier's winemaking philosophy is one of minimum intervention and, since 2008, the house has been producing Champagne with very little addition of sugar and sulphur dioxide. The wines are typically fruity, lively and exuberant with a strong Pinot Noir influence. |
